Isaac Butler died from wounds on 1st January, 1915, after having been brought back to England, but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded. The 2nd Essex battalion was part of 12 Brigade, 4th Division which, along with the rest of the Brritish Army had been in almost constant action since the start of the war, four months earlier.
